More than neighborhoods, living communities! Here residents matter

The people we see on the streets in many municipal areas of Lisbon are more than friends or family, acquaintances or neighbors, they are a community. Gebalis believes that community building is an ongoing effort required to strengthen social bonds among residents and promote collective growth, ultimately for the happiness of those who live there. This development is largely dependent on people providing services, such as residents’ associations.

Gebalis is responsible for numerous actions in more than 66 municipal areas of Lisbon, but it is through partnerships and local associations that it goes further in supporting the most vulnerable residents, especially the elderly, who thus have constant access to health services. places daily. The goal is clear: to provide not only quality housing, but also security and solidarity for residents.

For Gebalis, community is also built by involving residents in various activities, whether civic or recreational.

The Maria Vai competition, for example, results in the showcase of artistic talents in music and dance of young people from the Alta de Lisbon districts, municipalities and beyond.

The Memories Project is another Gebalis initiative that aims to share residents’ life stories, their experiences and how the resettlement process unfolded. Individual stories and testimonials from several generations, reflecting the unique character of each area.

The exhibition “Foco no Bairro” is the result of a photography competition that depicts Lisbon’s municipal districts through the eyes of not only those who live there, but also those who visit or simply pass by. The 68 images presented reflect the reality of the neighborhoods and the pride of their residents.

Through these initiatives, Gebalis actively contributes to bringing more life and beauty to the municipal areas of Lisbon, bringing residents together, giving them a sense of belonging to the area in which they live and to the city as a whole.
