The Vatican is investigating rumors of an alleged “sex party” at Newcastle Cathedral in northern England that took place during lockdown.
According to British newspaper daily mailThe Catholic Church is investigating the situation as part of another investigation into the resignation of Robert Byrne as Bishop of Hexham and Newcastle in December. Rumor has it that Byrne was at the party, although there is no confirmation.
However, allegations of being invited to the party fall on Father Michael McCoy, rector of Newcastle Cathedral, who invited several people to take part in a “sex party” at the priests’ quarters adjacent to Newcastle Cathedral.
McCoy, 57, committed suicide in April 2021, four days after learning he was suspected of child sexual abuse. Michael McCoy
was appointed by Byrne in 2019 to replace the popular father of Dermott Donnelly, the older brother of broadcaster Declan Donnelly.
