Congressional Republicans increased pressure on President Joe Biden this Wednesday by holding the first hearing to begin the process of removing the man in charge of immigration policy, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
In the middle of an election year, the conservative opposition, which has a majority in the House of Representatives, has focused on the migrant crisis at the border with Mexico and is now accusing the Homeland Security secretary of failing to enforce immigration laws.
But the Democratic government argues it inherited a broken immigration system from previous governments and wants Congress to approve reform with new resources to address the border situation.
