Heavy rains that have lashed the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo and the capital region every evening since last Monday led to the death of another person this Friday. This is the third confirmed death since the daily downpours began, and two people are missing, one of them a six-year-old boy.
The fatal victim this Friday was a 49-year-old man, a resident of the Riacho Grande area in São Bernardo do Campo, a city neighboring São Paulo. The slope behind his house slid around 11pm local time, two o’clock this Saturday morning in Lisbon, and hit the back room where he was staying.
His wife and daughter, who were at the front of the house, were not injured but were forced to leave the house due to structural damage caused by the landslide. In addition to this house, Civil Defense officials have closed six other nearby houses, although none of them are in risk areas.
