The trial of 11 people, including Portuguese, accused of drug trafficking in Galicia will take place on Tuesday in the provincial court of Pontevedra, where it is a crime against public health.
The charge carries a prison sentence of four to nine years for a crime against public health. The 11 defendants include Spaniards, Albanians and Portuguese.
The indictment follows investigations by the Customs Service, part of the Tax Agency, as well as the Spanish National Police and Civil Guard.
According to investigators, the defendants stored various types of drugs, including marijuana, hashish and heroin, for distribution in the province of Pontevedra in Galicia.
The defendants operated cannabis farms in partnership with another deceased person, who was also the subject of the investigation, from 2016 to 2018.
Spanish prosecutors claim it was a “continuous and structured activity between all of them, in which each had specific tasks” to operate the cannabis plantations.
Other drugs were also seized as part of the investigation.
