Brazil suffered the most severe seismic shock in its history, and no one noticed.

Last Saturday, Brazil suffered the worst seismic shock in its history, and no one noticed. No casualties or property damage were reported.

Only seismological monitoring equipment, such as that of the United States Geological Survey (USGS), detected the tremors and raised the alarm.

The quake had a magnitude of 6.6 on the Richter scale, typically enough to cause severe damage and, depending on the affected region, many casualties, and occurred at 4:31 p.m. local time, the North American agency said. in Lisbon, in the Parahuaca region, in the state of Acre, in the far north of Brazil, in the heart of the Amazon rainforest.

According to the US Geological Survey, the powerful tremor occurred at a depth of 614.5 kilometers, so far from the Earth’s surface that no one would be able to feel anything because the enormous amount of energy released as a result of the tremor dissipated at that distance.

Moreover, according to US geologists, the area of the earthquake’s epicenter is a remote, uninhabited area, very far from any urban center. So much so that another earthquake of almost the same strength, at that time with a magnitude of 6.5, occurred on June 7 last year and no one noticed it either.

According to Brazilian geologists, Brazil is subject to seismic tremors every day, but they are so weak that they are usually either not felt or cause little more than fear, and they tend to occur in remote areas, far from large population centers such as Sao Paulo. , Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte or Brasilia.

Some stronger ones, very rare, reach just over 2.3 degrees on the Richter scale, as has already happened in the sparsely populated regions of the states of Minas Gerais and Ceará.
