Angola is at alert level two out of three due to a cholera epidemic in the neighboring countries of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRCongo) and Zambia, the Angolan health ministry said on Tuesday.
Director of Health Helga Freitas gave information at a press conference, according to which no cases of cholera have been registered.
“At the moment we have no cases of cholera in the country. We are at level 2 due to cases reported in Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo,” the official said as quoted by Jornal de Angola.
Helga Freitas said Angola is strengthening supervision, training and education of technicians, while at the provincial and municipal level the distribution of treated water to the population is being strengthened.
The official explained that the maximum level is 3 when countries confirm cases of the disease.
“The Ministry of Health is placing medical kits along the border and strengthening all borders at the national level,” he concluded.
