At least three people are dead and four are in critical condition after a helicopter crashed in the mountains of British Columbia in western Canada while a group of skiers were heli-skiing, an off-slope sport.
The accident occurred Monday afternoon at 4:15 pm (12:15 am this Tuesday in Lisbon) in the Terrace area, local authorities said, confirming the dispatch of five ambulances by land and three by air, the Canadian public television station reported. CBC.
Northern Escape Heli-Skiing, the company responsible for the group, said it was “deeply sorry” for the accident, which resulted in the deaths of both company staff and tourists.
Heli-skiing involves the use of helicopters to access mountainous areas that conventional cable car networks cannot reach.
Some of the victims were identified as Italian citizens, so Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani also expressed condolences over the “terrible accident.”
Tajani confirmed on social media that the local Italian consulate would provide “maximum assistance” to the affected Italians, without providing further details.
