Two men who initially fought each other on the street in Fortaleza, capital of Brazil’s northeastern state of Ceará, killed each other with the same weapon on Wednesday morning. The fight and death took place in the Pirambu area and was captured on CCTV from a nearby house.
The pictures show a man in a blue shirt leaving the house and heading towards another man dressed in black, who happened to be on the street. They exchange a few words which quickly escalate into a heated argument and then start attacking each other.
At some point, a man in black with a backpack picked up a firearm and shot several times at the man in blue. Although he was wounded, the one in blue, who had left the property to question the other, managed to wrestle the gun away from the shooter and in turn shot him, wounding him equally.
The following images, which have had a major impact on social media, show the death of two contenders. First, the man in black, who shot the other first, falls dead in the middle of the street, and then the man in blue tries to take a few steps to get away from there and probably ask for help, but ends up falling dead too.
Until Wednesday afternoon it was not yet known exactly what sparked the argument between the two men, or whether they knew each other or had any long-standing feud, and Ceará police had said nothing about it, saying only that they would investigate. The police report describes the case as murder followed by death in self-defense without further details.
