The Governor of the Bank of Mozambique, Rogerio Zandamela, said this Friday that the country faces “serious challenges of financial inclusion”, a situation that impedes “social justice”.
Zandamela spoke during an event on financial technology companies (Fintechs) that took place this Friday in Maputo.
“The country has serious problems with financial inclusion; there cannot be inclusive and balanced development without addressing issues of financial inclusion,” said the head of Mozambique’s financial regulator.
Economic growth without access to financial services hinders social justice, Rogerio Zandamela continued.
“We want a fairer society, economic growth is not enough, we need social justice, without this economic growth will be difficult,” Zandamela emphasized.
The Bank of Mozambique’s 2022 financial inclusion report states that the country has 306 bank accounts for every thousand adults, up from 315 in 2021, an increase of 2.8%.
According to the study, 68.5% of the country’s population now has e-money accounts, up from 67.2% in 2021.
