Former US President Donald Trump unexpectedly walked out of court in New York on charges of defaming writer E. Jean Carroll as her lawyer presented closing arguments.
Minutes after defense attorney Roberta Kaplan began arguing in Manhattan federal court, Trump suddenly stood up from his seat at the defense table and walked toward the exit, waiting a moment to allow Secret Service officials to receive him.
E. Jean Carroll’s lawyer urged the jury to decide on a minimum award of $12 million (about 11 million euros), arguing that Trump destroyed her reputation by causing a hateful reaction after calling her a liar.
