Maximum temperatures on the Portuguese mainland will remain above average in January, between 17 and 19 degrees Celsius, slightly lower than last week, meteorologist Patricia Gomez told Lusa.
“Last week they were above the January average. For example, Sunday’s highs were about 2 to 7/8 degrees above normal for the time, varying depending on IPMA location, of course. stations,” said a meteorologist at the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).
According to Patricia Gomez, this week maximum temperatures will remain below 20 degrees and sometimes above (20/21 degrees) in the southern Tagus Valley region.
“But overall they will be between 17-19 degrees and remain stable throughout the week,” he said.
IPMA is also forecasting light to moderate winds, partly cloudy skies and fog or morning fog in some places this week, Patricia Gomez said.
Light rainfall is also expected along the coast.
The minimum temperature this Monday on the continent will range from 3 degrees Celsius (in Bragança) to 12 (in Faro and Portalegre), while the maximum will range from 13 (in Guarda) to 20 (in Santarem).
“For today and tomorrow [terça-feira] Airborne dust is also expected from North Africa. On Sunday they affected the Madeira archipelago, and from today it will become the mainland. It’s not expected to be very intense, it might not even be visible, but it will still be in the atmosphere,” he said.
