Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on Tuesday denied that investigations against members of former President Jair Bolsonaro’s family for illegal espionage were the result of political persecution.
“The Brazilian government does not control the federal police, much less the justice system. You have an investigation, a Supreme Court judge’s decision. [Supremo Tribunal Federal] who ordered a search and seizure on suspicion of misuse by Abin [Agência Brasileira de Inteligência]”Lula da Silva said in an interview with CBN radio.
“I don’t see any abnormal problem if there is a court decision. I hope that people under investigation have the right to a presumption of innocence, which I did not have. And I think people who shouldn’t be doing this aren’t afraid,” he added.
