An 18-month-old girl died after getting her head stuck in a wooden railing at a kindergarten in Alvalade, Lisbon, on Tuesday afternoon. Firefighters, INEM and public security police were at the scene.
The alarm came at 16:20. The PSP confirmed that emergency services were called to the Tortoise and Hare kindergarten for a child about a year old who had suffered a cardiac arrest.
The child was taken to the Santa Maria Hospital in Lisbon, where he died this Wednesday.
In a statement, the Portuguese Association of Parents and Friends of Mentally Ill Citizens of Lisbon confirms that “primary care and subsequent resuscitation measures were carried out simultaneously with contact with INEM.” School staff were able to remove the child from the railing before firefighters arrived.
