Teachers at street protests during the election campaign

Teachers want their demands to be highlighted in the election campaign, which is why they announced this Saturday street protests for 10 working days that will kick off legislative elections on March 10. Fenprof has scheduled daily concentrations at 10:00 and 15:00 in two areas per day, from north to south, between February 26 and March 8.

Meeting over the past three days, Fenprof leaders have taken a firm stance on the election, deeming it “desirable” for there to be no absolute majority and viewing the possible rise of the far right as “very negative”.

A list of demands was approved, which provides for the signing of a “negotiation protocol” with the “next team of the Ministry of Education”, valid for the entire legislative body. In addition to restoring seniority, Fenprof wants to restore careers, update wages, eliminate insecurity, regularize working hours, create special retirement and sickness mobility schemes and ensure respect for trade union rights. It also intends to abolish the municipalization of schools and “democratize” management by ending mega-groups, as well as strengthen the authority of teachers, “create conditions to combat indiscipline, avoid violence and raise the social prestige” of teachers. Fenprof also warns of chronic underfunding of education, given that public schools could be at risk within 10 years.
