Brianna Gay was 16 years old when she was brutally murdered in a park in Warrington, England, for being transgender. This Friday, almost a year after the crime, killers Eddie Ratcliffe and Scarlett Jenkinson were sentenced to life in prison, the newspaper reports. The keeper.
Brianna’s body was found face down in the mud with 28 stab wounds on February 11 last year. The crime was called “exceptionally brutal” and shocked the community.
“They both participated in a brutal, planned and sadistic murder, the secondary motive of which was hostility towards Brianna because of her transgender identity,” the judge said in sentencing.
Planned Murder
The killers, described as “dangerous to society”, were 15 years old when they began meticulously planning to kill Brianna.
According to The keeper, Scarlett began befriending Brianna when she changed schools and quickly became obsessed.
The police even found a note from Scarlett that said: “Saturday, February 11th. Victim: Brianna Gay.” The killer also hand-wrote a plan for how and where she would strike the victim, and even created a code to know when to launch the attack on the appointed day.
In court, Scarlett Jenkinso admitted for the first time that she was the one who stabbed Brianna Gay and that she enjoyed planning the murder. He even admitted that he intended to take his friend’s body parts as a “trophy.”
Death wish and transphobia
Scarlett’s initial psychiatric evaluation found that she had features of autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, but the diagnosis was changed to “a severe form of dissocial behavior disorder, one of the characteristics of which is a lack of empathy.”
“The primary motivation for Brianna’s death was her deep desire to kill. The messages reveal fantasies and demonstrate sadistic motives. Brianna’s murder was exceptionally brutal,” the judge said.
Eddie Ratcliffe was “motivated in part by animosity toward Brianna because she was transgender.” The young man called Brianna “it” and said he wanted to see her dead to find out how big her genitals were.
Alarming case
“The sentencing hearing concludes one of the most disturbing cases the Crown Prosecution Service has had to deal with. At just 16 years old, Scarlett Jenkinson and Eddie Ratcliffe are convicted murderers responsible for the brutal murder of a vulnerable young girl who thought they were his friends. They were sentenced to life imprisonment and showed no remorse,” said prosecutor Nicola Wyn Williams.
