The deputy commander of the Protection and Assistance Company (CIPS) of Braga from the GNR was summoned this Sunday to appear in Coimbra on Monday to the Brigadier General who commands the Emergency and Protection Unit (UEPS) and explain why CIPS had 40 military personnel (almost all of his staff) are on leave, which prevented him from carrying out orders for the police at this Sunday’s football match between Visela-Vitoria de Guimarães (instead of the staff who also took low places), CIPS confirmed. The lieutenant in question also claimed that he did not have public order equipment (helmets and shields) for the military, who would not be trained in this area and whose main task was to rescue and extinguish rural fires.
On Monday at 09:00 a concentration is planned in support of the lieutenant at the doors of the UEPS in Coimbra. Several soldiers are considering requesting a transfer.
Contrary to what was circulating this Sunday, the officer has not yet been dismissed from his post, according to an official source in the PPR.
