The defeat represents a major embarrassment, even though it has little practical impact on the race for the Republican nomination, since the vote that counts toward selecting delegates doesn’t take place until this Wednesday and Trump is the only candidate on the ballot.
As a reminder, two back-to-back votes were held this year due to a dispute between the state and the local Republican Party, but only the Wednesday’s meetings are counted for the final result. Haley chose not to participate in the caucuses because she believed that the duplication of votes was intended only to benefit Trump.
