Ricardo Dias, who killed a young man while escaping from the GPR in Vila do Conde, was sentenced to three years and two months in prison for grossly negligent murder and minor drug dealing. The verdict was known this Wednesday in the court of Matosinhos.
It happened on January 4 in Mindelo, Vila do Conde, when 48-year-old Ricardo Diaz took off at high speed when he saw a GNR traffic light because he had almost half a kilo of hashish in his car. After about a kilometer, he strongly collided with a car in which 28-year-old Joao Silva was traveling, who eventually died.
The victim’s family is outraged by the verdict and believes that justice has not been served.
The judge said that the punishment must be effective, because society will not understand another solution.
