Bad weather affects carnival parades: after Loule and Sesimbra, Elvas and Estremoz cancel parades

The chambers of Loule, Sesimbra, Elvas and Estremoz have canceled the carnival parade planned for this Sunday due to bad weather. Despite this, the Monday and Tuesday schedule remains the same.

“After consultation with several organizations related to the weather forecast, the City Council of Loule has decided to cancel the first day of the Loule 2024 Carnival Parade scheduled for this Sunday, February 11, from 15:00 on Avenida José da Costa Mealha,” the Algarve municipality said in a statement.

The organization considered that “even if the weather improves this afternoon, the rain forecast moments before the start of the parade could jeopardize all the logistics of the parade, in particular the costumes and decorations,” the Faro district municipality explained.

“To ensure the party doesn’t get spoiled over the three days, the 14 floats and 600 extras who represent this year’s theme ‘Discovering the SDGs’ take to the streets only on Carnival Monday and Tuesday, the last day being the highlight. holiday,” the municipality also emphasized.

Loule Municipality also stressed that tickets for this Sunday will be valid on Monday and Tuesday and asked the public and visitors for their understanding in this regard.

The Chamber of Sesimbra also guarantees that “those who purchased bench tickets for Sunday will be able to exchange them for Tuesday, subject to availability, or request a refund.”

“The Monday 12th Clown Parade and Tuesday 13th Clown Parade remain scheduled,” the city said in a statement.

The Elvas Chamber also “met this morning with the groups participating in the carnival parade and everyone has decided to cancel the event this Sunday due to weather conditions,” a statement released by the municipality can be read.

The Loule Carnival is the oldest in Portugal and was due to take to the streets this Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Its theme will be dedicated to sustainable development and sustainable development goals, which is one of the flagships of the municipality.

According to the forecast of the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA), the weather in the Algarve this Sunday will be marked by bad weather and rain. Periods of showers are forecast throughout the region.
