The Viana do Castelo court this Thursday acquitted the former president of Caminha, Miguel Alves, and the businesswoman Manuela Sousa of the crime of malfeasance in the award of a public contract for communications consulting services for the municipality.
The Public Ministry (MP) accused Miguel Alves of violating public procurement rules when he agreed with businesswoman Manuela Couto to provide communications consulting services to the municipality of Caminha “without any public procurement procedure.”
In January, in closing arguments, the lawmaker demanded the conviction of the two defendants, arguing that documentary evidence and experience supported the facts contained in the indictment.
In a conversation with reporters, the former mayor said that he was pleased with this decision. “It’s been a very difficult year for me and the people who like me,” he explained.
