This Friday it was announced that the man responsible for sending six letter bombs to Spanish institutions, namely the government, would be taken into custody.
According to the newspaper Peacethe judge held the defendant responsible for four terrorist offences, two of them aggravated terrorism, for sending letters to the prime minister and defense minister Margarita Robles, and one for using flammable explosive devices for terrorist purposes.
The resolution explains that the choice of recipients demonstrates its intent to “seriously disturb public order” by conveying the message that it is about acts committed by people associated with Russia. The man also intended to “force the country’s public authorities to refrain from supporting Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression.”
According to the magistrate, whose words are quoted by Reuters, the man tried to put pressure on the authorities the country refused to support Ukraine.
The suspect, arrested this Wednesday, sent six explosive envelopes to targets including Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, the Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid, Spanish government offices, European Union Satellite Center and the US Embassy from November 24 to December 2. As a result of these attacks, one person was injured.
