The candidate of the “Spitzenkandidat” (head of the list) of the European People’s Party (EPP) for this Wednesday’s European elections rejected possible post-election agreements with compositions of the benches that include members “against the rule of law” and “friends of Putin”. President of Russia.
“It is important for me to work with pro-European, pro-NATO, pro-Ukrainian groups that clearly support our democratic values. (…) As you know, every European election involves a change in the composition of different political parties and different political groups, so the content matters, and those who defend democracy from Eurosceptics, and those who defend our values from Putin’s friends, are those , who I want to work with and I know I can work with,” said Ursula von der Leyen.
The current President of the European Commission, who wants to become the “Spitzenkandidat” of the EPP to lead the institution for another five years, noted that a possible agreement with parties that are “against the rule of law” is impossible,” and also “impossible with [partidos] Friends [Vladimir] Putin.”
