Five suspects were arrested and about 4,500 kg of hashish were seized this Friday on the high seas in the Algarve, following a joint mission by the judicial police, navy and air force.
Two speedboats carrying 127 bales of hashish were spotted by an Air Force patrol and picked up at high speed by Navy Marines 60 miles south of the Algarve, in international waters. The ships were then towed to Faro.
According to cm It has emerged that these boats may be the ones that eluded GNR this week during the chase in which the UCC vessel lost an engine, or may be connected to the same network.
The authorities said in a statement that men between the ages of 36 and 49 would be brought before the “competent judicial authorities” and that the investigation would continue under the responsibility of the Judicial Police.
