The capital’s PSP Porto command said on Wednesday it had detained two people and seized more than 120 kilograms of hashish in a police operation against drug trafficking.
The cost of more than 120 kilograms was about 150 thousand euros, three thousand euros in cash and three vehicles were also seized, Commissioner Sousa Pereira explained to reporters.
In a statement, the PSP clarified that the operation targeted individuals who were “organized in drug trafficking in the Porto metropolitan area.”
According to the PSP Commissioner, the detainees are 27 and 50 years old: one lives in Porto – without registration, the other in Lisbon – with registration.
“One of the individuals from the south of the national territory transported the drug to the city of Porto, and the other was the leader and ringleader who then distributed it to other traffickers,” Sousa Pereira said.
According to the commissioner, the drug was destined for “the outskirts of the city of Porto and small traders.”
In addition to more than 120 kilograms of hashish – about 130, according to the commissioner – two kilograms of marijuana, three thousand euros, three vehicles and “paraphernalia associated with drug trafficking and use” were also seized.
There were also four searches at home and four searches outside the home, with the operation starting at 4pm on Tuesday.
Asked whether a drug trafficking network was at stake, the PSP commissioner said he believed the ringleader was “himself acquiring and distributing a very large quantity of drugs” without prejudice to the investigation still ongoing.
The detainees will be brought to the Porto Criminal Court on Thursday morning at 10 am.
The Criminal Investigations Division was responsible for this PSP action.
