The cat was found alive eight days after a fire destroyed a 14-storey building in Valencia. According to the report, the animal was discovered by firefighters in the Spanish city of Valencia this Friday among the rubble of a building. Reuters.
Coco was given to owner Andrea Rubio, who had lost all hope that the cat had survived the fire that killed 10 people and dozens of pets. “Poor thing!” Rubio, 32, exclaimed as he hugged Coco.
“We found him by pure chance,” the firefighter said in a video released by local police.
Andrea’s partner Javier Fernandez spoke about this. Reuters that rescuers found Coco on the 13th floor, two floors above her apartment, in a part of the building that was largely undamaged. Coco appears to have taken refuge in a fire hydrant.
The couple took Coco to the veterinary clinic for a full examination.
The deadly fire, which spread quickly due to strong winds, broke out on the night of February 22 in the wealthy El Campanar neighborhood. More than 150 survivors, including Rubio and Fernandez, are temporarily living in empty public housing while awaiting a more permanent solution.
