On Monday, a man was arrested for stealing a car with a two-year-old boy inside in front of a school in Tui, Galicia. The alarm was raised around 16:45 local time (equivalent to 15:45 in Portugal).
According to the newspaper La Voz de GaliciaThe woman went to pick up her children from school, parked the car and left her two-year-old son inside. At that moment, the man got into the car and disappeared.
The Civil Guard, local police and the Civil Defense of Tui were mobilized to the scene and a search operation began to find the perpetrator. Portuguese authorities were even warned about the possibility of the suspect escaping into the country.
However, the suspect was intercepted and detained by authorities. The child is healthy, but he was taken to a sanatorium for examination.
The child’s mother was assisted by social services and council officers during the police investigation.
