The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, expressed this Wednesday his “regret and recognition” for Antonio-Pedro Vasconcelos, calling him “a man of culture.”
“A man of culture, frontal, interventionist and untimely, he loved literature, the clarity and sharpness of the prose of Stendhal, the great masters of classical American cinema and participated in political campaigns and civil battles associated, for example, with RTP and TAP,” the president assured.
Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa also emphasizes that “António-Pedro Vasconcelos was one of the critics and directors who renewed the hope for a new Portuguese cinema, not linked to the regime and in line with European cinema.”
“In everything he did, he was a prominent figure in our public space for the last half century,” he guarantees.
