The 55-year-old woman died on Wednesday afternoon after feeling unwell and going to the Cantanhede Medical Center for help. The woman suffered cardiopulmonary arrest.
A close source said that the woman went to the sanatorium, but the doctor refused to treat her. The local health department of Coimbra ensures that the user is monitored and a CODU is called due to a serious situation.
INEM was also called, but in the meantime the victim had already suffered cardiovascular arrest. Firefighters still tried to carry out resuscitation measures, but it was no longer possible to “reverse the clinical condition.”
ULS Coimbra says it has “initiated an investigation process with the aim of assessing the quality of services in this unit, providing it to the family, to whom it expresses its deepest condolences.”
Alexandre Lourenço, director of ULS in the city, said medical services were properly mobilized and the necessary maneuvers were carried out to save the woman’s life.
“The patient had also been inside the facility for some time since she was treated,” he added.
The director described the opening of the investigation as a “routine” process to determine the full circumstances of a situation he called “complex and difficult.” He also noted that so far it has only been established that all assistance was provided properly.
