Benfica said on Friday that UEFA had decided to sanction the club by banning the sale of tickets to its fans for its next European away game, with the penalty suspended for two years.
The reason for this measure was the behavior of the Reds fans in the last game played away at the Toulouse stadium, when the Luz club was also fined 28 thousand euros. The majority of this fine (€20,000) relates to the burning of torches and throwing objects during the second leg of the Europa League round of 16 play-off, while the remaining €8,000 relates to damage caused by Benfica fans at the opponent’s stadium .
UEFA has also determined that Benfica will have to contact Toulouse within the next 30 days to repair the damage to the French club’s stadium.
