A prisoner at the Custoias prison in Porto was caught by prison guards while trying to escape from the Custoias prison in Porto. It was the second escape from national prisons on Monday after a 41-year-old woman managed to escape from the Tires women’s prison in the municipality of Cascais.
Paulo Silva, prisoner caught in Custoias, 30 years old, is in pre-trial detention in a case in which he is charged with robbery and skilled robbery. He entered prison only on March 7.
On Monday, at 15:00, a prisoner, while on recess, climbed the wall and jumped onto the internal prison path, believing that he was already outside. He ran to the workshop and then to Tower 4 of the Kustoyas Network. It was at this point that he was grabbed by a prison guard and taken to prison.
The CM knows that Paulo Silva justified his escape attempt by citing threats of aggression from his roommates, who accuse him of stealing tobacco.
An official prison service source confirmed that “an incident occurred at Porto prison involving a prisoner who illegally entered the internal prison.” “It should be noted that the incident was detected and monitored in real time (at the time of its occurrence), and the prisoner was placed under preventive measures during the relevant disciplinary process,” the same source added.
The CM asked the body that runs the nation’s prisons about the escape of Rita de Mello Franco from Tires prison, with the same official source saying that “efforts are continuing to capture the prisoner who escaped from Tires prison on Monday.”
Frederico Morais, leader of the National Union of Prison Guards, believes that with these two prison escapes occurring on the same day, “the security of prison institutions is at stake.” “There is a huge lack of security due to lack of human resources. The prison guard corps is going through a terrible phase in terms of the lack of elements that guarantee the security of prison institutions,” he concluded.
