The 21-year-old was detained in Leiria by the Judicial Police (PJ) on Tuesday on suspicion of pornography of minors.
According to the SP statement, the investigation by the Leiria Criminal Investigation Department continued for about six months after receiving the complaint.
“After investigation and house search, hundreds of files, videos and images of sexual acts and sexual positions with minors were seized,” the SP said.
The police explained that “digital forensic investigations allowed the extraction of content supporting the crime attributed to the detainee, which took place in the house where he lived with his family.”
PJ’s source told Lusa that the accused, who is unemployed, has no criminal record and was searching for images online.
According to the same source, the investigation was launched following a report from the North American organization National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).
The suspect, a foreigner, will be handed over to the judicial authorities this Wednesday for possible enforcement measures.
