Drivers at the trucking company Transdev are on strike from this Tuesday until next Thursday, demanding higher wages, union leader José Manuel Silva explained to Luca, who says the membership is between 80% and 85%.
“The demands are a decent wage increase for workers who currently receive the national minimum wage of 820 euros,” said Luse José Manuel Silva, coordinator of the Northern Urban Road Transport Union (STRUN). ).
The union leader says that at Transdev, “workers are standing still” because they will not accept a lower premium than that practiced by member companies of the National Association of Passenger Transport (Antrop), of 60 euros, excluding additional services.
At Transdev, which operates mainly in the north and center of the country, the increase was only 15 euros, from 805 to 820 euros, which “workers do not accept,” according to José Manuel Silva.
“Moreover, they came at the last minute to negotiate again with three more unions. They never wanted to negotiate with us,” further accuses the head of STRUN, who is still awaiting a counter-offer from Transdev.
José Manuel Silva also accused the company of offering an increase of 50 euros to 870 euros, but exclusively for union workers with whom it had reached an agreement.
“The workers were even more indignant, and the workers gave them an answer on Tuesday,” he emphasized.
In response to Lusa, a company source said that STRUN “represents no more than 10% of the workers” and that of those, only “45% went on strike,” accusing the union of not coming to the negotiating table. .
The company has not confirmed the accusation that workers not covered by the increase earn 820 euros, nor that it is negotiating an increase (50 euros) below what was agreed with ANTROP companies (60 plus allowances).
“This information is false,” a source at the carrier responded to Lusa.
Asked whether the company intended to meet with STRUN during the strike and reach an agreement, the source said Transdev “has always wanted to meet with all worker representatives, including STRUN,” calling for dialogue.
During the remaining days of the strike, workers will continue to gather in front of the Transdev plant in Pinheiro, Guimarães (Braga district).
