US authorities this Wednesday imposed sanctions on two individuals and two Russian companies allegedly linked to a foreign disinformation campaign aimed at “deceiving voters and undermining trust in institutions.”
The US Treasury Department in a statement reaffirmed its “commitment to exposing the Russian government’s massive campaigns of manipulation to undermine trust in democratic institutions in the United States and around the world.”
“The United States, along with our allies and partners, remains steadfast in defending our democratic principles and the trust in our elections,” said Treasury Under Secretary for Counterterrorism and Financial Intelligence Brian Nelson.
