In Gondomar, police arrested a couple, aged 45 and 42, suspected of trafficking a child for adoption. She was bought for 10 thousand euros and gave birth in Trás-os-Montes.
About a year ago, a couple approached the family health center (USF) in Gondomar with a four-month-old baby, asking for her to be vaccinated and integrated into the family. They claimed that the child was born on October 26, 2022 in Spain as a result of an extramarital affair between a man and a Spanish woman and that they intended to take care of her as their daughter. USF did not accept it because the couple did not provide any documents identifying the child or confirming paternity or possible adoption, regulation of parental authority or transfer of parental responsibilities.
In May 2023, the couple returned to USF, this time presenting the minor’s citizenship card, which listed her as their daughter and with a date of birth of December 20, 2022. But tests on PJ’s DNA led to the conclusion that the child was not the daughter of either of the couple and the child was placed in foster care.
The man has a criminal record for the crimes of robbery and theft. Both will be referred to the judiciary for enforcement action. The investigation continues together with Spanish authorities.
