The former commander of the commando regiment, Colonel Luis Dores Moreira, was sentenced this Friday by the Lisbon criminal courts to one year and seven months in prison, suspended, for falsifying documents from Prova Zero. ‘. Assistant commander Raul Pinto was acquitted because his involvement in the crime could not be ascertained.
The documents in question relate to a “null test” scenario for Course 127, where recruits Hugo Abreu and Dylan Silva died of exhaustion on September 4, 2016. It was proven in court that the script submitted to the Commando Regiment did not correspond to the one distributed to the instructors before Proof Zero. The first mentions five water flasks, not the three specified to the instructors. The trial was the result of testimony and computer forensics.
As soon as the decision became known, Paulo Mendes dos Santos, Raul Pinto’s lawyer, said that “the result could only be this,” given that the trial was the result of “speculative activities of the prosecutor’s office.”
In turn, Luis Dores Moreira’s defense did not want to clarify whether he would appeal the verdict.
