Early this Sunday morning, the Portuguese Navy completed a surveillance mission of three Russian ships as they passed through Portuguese waters.
The Navy said in a statement that it controlled passage through the exclusive economic zone of a tanker ship and two amphibious assault ships from Russia.
The mission, which began early Friday morning and ended early this Sunday morning, involved the Portuguese Republic ship (NRP) Bartolomeu Dias and the NRP Viana do Castelo, which “closely monitored these ships and contributed to the constant refinement of the situational picture.”
“This type of task is carried out to ensure the security of national maritime spaces and promote collective defense within the Atlantic Alliance,” the Navy emphasizes.
