The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has placed 15 areas of mainland Portugal and Madeira under a yellow warning level due to forecasts of snowfall, heavy rain or wind and rough seas.
Snowfall warnings are in effect until Tuesday for the areas of Aveiro, Castelo Branco, Bragança, Coimbra, Viseu, Braga, Porto, Guarda, Vila Real, Viana do Castelo and Leiria.
High seas and strong wind warnings are in effect for Tuesday in the districts of Aveiro, Coimbra, Braga, Porto, Faro, Setubal, Viana do Castelo, Lisbon, Leiria and Beja.
In the autonomous region of Madeira, a warning for rain, sometimes heavy and accompanied by thunderstorms, is in effect until 12:00 this Sunday in mountainous areas and on the north and south coasts.
A rough sea warning for the archipelago is in effect for Tuesday on the North Coast and the island of Porto Santo.
In IPMA terminology, a yellow warning is the second least severe on a scale of four and means “a situation of risk for certain activities depending on the meteorological situation.”
