Anti-system candidate Bassirou Diomaye Faye appeared close to winning this Sunday’s first round of Senegal’s presidential election, with several candidates already congratulating him on his vote.
Senegal’s five presidential candidates have acknowledged Diomaye Faye’s victory in a declared and unpredictable victory, still without official confirmation and while votes are being counted. Official results should not be known until the end of this week.
“We congratulate Bassira Diomaie Faye on his undisputed victory,” Anta Babacar Ngom, the only female candidate, wrote on social media X. Detie Fall congratulated Faye “on her wonderful victory, clearly achieved against a backdrop of strong emerging trends.”
