The Venezuelan government has created a High State Commission to Combat Fascism and Neo-Fascism, Vice President of Venezuela Delcy Rodriguez announced today on social network X.
“President Nicolas Maduro decided to create a High State Commission to Combat Fascism and Neo-Fascism to present to the National Assembly [onde detém a maioria] a bill against fascism and all neo-fascist expressions,” said the Vice President of Venezuela.
On the same social network, Delcy Rodriguez explained that this decision is a response “to the acts of violence that the country experienced in 2014, 2015 and 2017.” [anos em que se registaram amplos protestos opositores no país, por distintos motivos e durante os quais vários venezuelanos foram assassinados].
“And also serious consequences for the economy, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country, compromised by extremist factors that captured the Venezuelan parliament in 2015. [quando a oposição obteve maioria parlamentar]to deprive Venezuela of its resources and create internal destabilization.”
The Vice President of Venezuela also explained that the decision takes “into account the international situation, the peace and stability of which is threatened by neo-fascist statements that have established themselves in the centers of power serving the global North.”
“Neither fascism nor neo-Nazism will take place in Venezuela,” he emphasized.
The announcement of the creation of the High State Commission for the Fight against Fascism and Neo-Fascism came a day before the July 28 deadline for filing candidacies for the presidential election.
This Sunday, the Venezuelan opposition condemned the blockade of the electoral body’s website that prevents Corina Yoris, the replacement of Maria Corina Machado, from registering to participate in the presidential elections against the current Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.
The Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD), which brings together the main opposition parties, says it has been unable to access the National Electoral Council (CNE) dedicated page because the username and password assigned to it do not work.
“More than 54 hours have passed since the start of the registration period without access to the nomination system for Dr. Corina Joris,” the PUD reported on X.
Corina Joris has been named as Maria Corina Machado’s replacement to run against incumbent President Nicolas Maduro in the July 28 presidential election.
“Nothing and no one will distract us from the electoral path aimed at achieving change in Venezuela with the power of the majority of votes,” the Venezuelan opposition platform says.
Maria Corina Machado, a poll favorite, was nominated as the PDA candidate after winning the October 2023 primary but was barred from holding public office for 15 years, and on Friday named philosopher Corina Joris as her replacement and professor at the university.
The United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV, the ruling party) is expected to nominate Nicolas Maduro for a third six-year term on Monday.
