Based on forecasts from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IMPA), the Civil Protection Service warns of the possibility of winds, sometimes strong, in the highlands and on the west coast from the end of the day this Monday, with gusts of up to 80 kilometers per hour (kph).
On Tuesday, winds are forecast to gust up to 100 km/h in the highlands, especially in the Serra da Estrela, while on Wednesday winds will prevail from the southwest, with gusts up to 85 km/h, starting from midday in the northern and central regions. , which in the highlands can exceed 90 km/h.
On Wednesday, IPMA forecasts rain, sometimes heavy and persistent, which may be accompanied by hail and thunderstorms.
IPMA is forecasting high seas with waves from the northwest to the west coast that will worsen on Tuesday afternoon and reach six to seven meters north of Cabo Carvoeiro (maximum height 12 metres).
In mountainous areas, especially in the north and center, forecasts indicate snowfall on Tuesday, gradually falling to 600/800 meters, and snowfall may also occur in the Sao Mamede and Monchique mountains at dawn and in the morning.
