Angola’s President Joao Lourenço warned on Tuesday of problems in Africa, in particular armed conflicts that exacerbate hunger, cause forced migration, increase unemployment and repel foreign investors.
Joao Lawrence’s message, disclosed in a press release, was delivered on Tuesday at the meeting of the African Union Peace and Security Council, held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, marking the start of the “Day of Peace and Reconciliation in Africa.” , which will now be celebrated every year on January 31st.
Marking a new date in the African political calendar, the President of Angola made it clear that “peace and reconciliation in Africa can only be achieved through actions aimed at creating a spirit of trust and unity in diversity to prevent, manage and resolve conflicts.”
And he pointed to the “serious problems” facing Africa: “Unfortunately, armed conflicts exacerbate the scourge of hunger, poverty and disease, cause forced population migration, repel foreign private investment, increase unemployment, and other scourges affecting the daily lives of thousands of citizens.”
The Angolan head of state called on Africans to “disarm” their minds and “work hand in hand” and in a “spirit of brotherhood” to end the ongoing conflicts in West Africa, Central Africa, the Great Lakes region, East Africa and the Horn of Africa.
“Let’s definitely leave behind the troubled past of misunderstandings, disharmony and divisions that have conditioned and jeopardized the implementation of development strategies that would help accelerate our economic growth and bring us to an acceptable level of competitiveness with other regions of the world,” Joao stressed. Lawrence.
The Angolan ruler has set himself the goal of seeing the African continent “economically strong and socially stable”, a dream that can be achieved if there is a common work to achieve final peace on the continent.
To do this, he calls for “zero tolerance for terrorism, coup d’état and inter-ethnic, inter-religious wars and between neighboring countries.”
“For Africa to become a continent of peace, reconciliation and economic development, it depends first of all on us, on politicians, government officials and African citizens,” he added.
