Two men, aged 33 and 38, were arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking crimes in the municipality of Lagoa in the Azores, PSP announced this Thursday.

In a statement, the Regional Command of the PSP in the Azores said that “several police investigations have been carried out which have led to the confirmation of the report of several anonymous complaints pointing to an alleged drug trafficking scenario with an operational center in the urban area.” located in the parish of Santa Cruz, municipality of Lagoa”, on the island of San Miguel.

In the note, PSP claims that “the youngest defendant, in order to make it difficult for police to intervene, made advance arrangements with consumers” for a meeting location located in a “secluded location outside the normal flow of traffic” where he made the “sale.” direct use of synthetic drugs.”

According to the police, “evidence was collected which strengthened suspicions that the accused was distributing doses of synthetic drugs to other smaller drug dealers for subsequent sale.”

Also, according to the PSP, based on the collected evidence, a police operation was launched, which made it possible to “intercept the accused precisely at the moment when he was selling an individual dose of a synthetic drug to the consumer and receiving appropriate financial compensation from him.” .

Searches were also carried out, which “allowed the senior accused to be surprised and detained on the spot as he was in possession of prohibited substances and other items related to the crime under investigation”, namely “suspicious amounts of money” and 20 doses. hashish in a condition for sale, PSP adds in a note.

After appearing before a judge, the defendants were subject to coercive measures to establish their identity and place of residence, mandatory periodic reporting to authorities, and a ban on contact with drug addicts.
