A group of Cape Verdeans launches a portal about Cabral’s 100th anniversary

A collective of Cape Verdean artists, producers and scholars from the diaspora and archipelago will launch a portal on Saturday to commemorate the centenary of the birth of Amilcar Cabral on www.100amilcar.com.

The platform, available in Portuguese and English, aims to promote initiatives related to the anniversary.

The preview of the portal, which is already possible, represents “an attempt to transcend geographical and cultural boundaries with the goal of creating a global community of memory, learning and action inspired by Cabral’s ideals.”

The aim is to go beyond the superficial: in addition to covering events, the aim is to complement them with “a deep understanding of the values for which Cabral fought.”

Other goals to be achieved through the portal are “the creation of a global, sustainable and multicultural network of contacts” and the collection of evidence to “capture the essence of Amilcar Cabral’s influence.”
