The European Union and the United States congratulated Portuguese Prime Minister Luis Montenegro, who said at an inauguration ceremony on Tuesday that he hopes to govern the entire legislature despite the country’s political instability.
“Congratulations to Montenegro on taking office today. [terça-feira] as Prime Minister of Portugal. I look forward to our cooperation. Let’s join forces for a strong Portugal in a strong Europe,” wrote European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on the social network X (formerly Twitter).
The new head of the Portuguese government was also congratulated by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, in a message published on the website of the same social network.
