The UK Foreign Secretary said this Wednesday that the best way to prepare NATO for the outcome of the North American presidential election is to increase investment in the defense of all countries.
“The most important thing we can do is ensure that this alliance grows and continues to strengthen it by ensuring that we are all investing more than 2% of gross domestic product. [PIB] in defence,” David Cameron said as he arrived at a ministerial meeting at North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) headquarters in Brussels.
The former British prime minister added that “everyone should do this,” not just the 11 countries in the military-political bloc that have already exceeded this minimum goal.
“This is the best way to prepare for the US elections in the autumn, regardless of the outcome,” said David Cameron.
According to a report by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg published on March 14, Poland became the country that invested the highest percentage of GDP in defense in 2023 (3.92%).
Portugal, which contributed 02% of GDP to defense in 2030 alone, invested 1.48% last year.
