A 65-year-old man died this Friday after falling from a height of about six meters into a building under construction, the commander of the Taroka Volunteer Fire Department told the Lusa news agency.
“You were carrying out renovation work in an old building and fell from a height of about six meters while on the ceiling because the fall occurred indoors,” Umberto Sarmento told Lusa.
According to the official, “when firefighters arrived, the victim was in cardiac arrest and a doctor” from the National Institute of Emergency Medicine (INEM) pronounced him dead at the scene.
The fall occurred at a construction site located in Esporões, municipality of Taruca, in the north of the district of Viseu, and “the fatal victim was a resident of another location” of the municipality.
According to the Douro Subregional Civil Protection Command, the alarm was raised at 10:28 a.m. and 15 militants were on the scene, supported by seven vehicles from the Taruc volunteer fire service, GNR and INEM.
