Brazilian writer Rosana Murray, author of more than 100 books of different styles and winner of several important literary awards, was seriously injured this Friday morning when she was brutally attacked by three pit bull dogs. The attack occurred around 6:00 a.m. local time, 10:00 a.m. in Lisbon, on the street where the writer lives, in the town of Saquarema, a tourist region of Greater Rio de Janeiro.
Rosana, 73 years old, who takes a morning walk every day through the streets of the Gravata district where she lives, was attacked as soon as she left her house on Minister Salgado Filho Street. The neighbors were awakened by the desperate cries of the writer and the barking of dogs, known and feared in the area for their ferocity and belonging to a man who had broken into a house on the same street some time ago.
When neighbors came to help, Rosana was dragged down the street by dogs who bit her on the arms and head, causing severe injuries. At one point, the angry dogs even tore off pieces of one of the victim’s arms before members of the public finally managed to drive the animals away.
When firefighters arrived at the scene of the attack and realized the severity of the writer’s injuries, they decided to transport her by helicopter to the Alberto Torres State Hospital in the city of São Gonçalo, where the infrastructure is better than in Saquarema. Rosana was immediately operated on by a panel of doctors, including a neurosurgeon, a general surgeon, an orthopedist and an oral surgeon, and her condition was considered serious by the Secretariat late Friday Lisbon time. Health.
The dog’s owner was taken by police to the Saquarema police station, but was released after questioning, to the outrage of area residents and Rosana’s friends, as the dogs had already attacked several other people, although not as seriously. Three animals, which residents say are almost always strays on the street, have been placed in a temporary shelter until the court decides what to do with them.
