According to the National Maritime Authority, the body of a 70-year-old recreational fisherman, missing since Monday in Caminha, was found this Friday morning west of Forte do Cana, a town in the same municipality.
According to the statement, the body appears to be that of a man who was last seen in the coastal area of Vila Praia de Ancora and Moledo Beach.
The body was discovered “about 0.5 miles, approximately 0.8 kilometers west of Forte do Cao” and taken to a pier at the mouth of the Minho River, where it was pronounced dead.
ANM also reports that “the prosecutor’s office was contacted and the body was subsequently transported by Caminha volunteer firefighters to the National Institute of Forensic Medicine in Viana do Castelo after measures were taken by the judicial police.”
Emergency services have spent the week searching by sea and air for the missing man. Apparently, the victim left home to go fishing and never returned. The family then alerted authorities late Monday.
