Two young women were recently filmed trainsurfing (surfing on a train) in the Porto metro, on Avenida da República, in Matosinhos. The moment is spreading on social networks.
This phenomenon appeared in Portugal in 2015. In the Porto area it is called “andar a guna”. This phenomenon puts the lives of anyone riding outside subway cars at risk without paying for it, as the vehicles sometimes reach speeds of 80 km/h.
This is a dangerous phenomenon that is often caused by exhibitionism and risk-taking. Practitioners of trainsurfing are mostly young.
When such situations are identified, young people are escorted out by security guards.
At least since 2018, when a minor died at Senhor de Matosinhos station while still clinging between two metro trains, this phenomenon has not been recorded in Portugal.
